An uncompromising protest performance and an artistic manifestation against the constraints of feminine stereotypes.

Thursday December 13th

Tjarnarbíó, Tjarnargata 12

High heels beat into the floor as legs run at high endurance speed. Every foot step a reclaiming of space, of sound and of stance. At high velocity Alice Tatge takes to the stage, to take back power in the gaze of the viewer and to defy social concepts of the feminine.

WOMAN wishes to highlight a variety of female representations, by working with performers from diverse sexual and gender identities. Originally premiered in 2016 the work was performed and devised in collaboration with trans performer Daniel Mariblanca. WOMAN 1.1 is devised in collaboration with queer feminist artist Alice Tatge.

Between 2016-2020, the work will be re-performed and re-devised by six different performers, resulting in six unique variations of this solo work. Each variation maintains the structured framework and visual setting, whilst the performance material develops into new content. Each performer is asked to re-enact, re-claim and then re-work their predecessor’s artistic material and to further contribute towards questions surrounding notions of femininity and queer identity. In 2020 all six performers will join together to collectively perform WOMAN as group work titled: WOMAN: Re-Cycle.
