ULTRA10 male dancers investigate unison through 6 images.
Thursday December 13th
15:00 – 16:00
Gaflaraleikhúsið, Víkingastræti 2, Hafnarfjörður
ULTRA is 10 men investigating the notion of unison, its force and brittleness through 6 images; togetherness, sound, object, walking & dancing, repetition and function.
ULTRA is provoked through the two sided fascination and repulsion of unison activities, such as militarism, hooliganism, activism, classical ballet, propaganda and masculinity. ULTRA plays with the idea of unison as a strength/weakness in confined communities and aims to balance its potential beauty and absurdism.
“I was in St Petersburg during the 9th of May marches, where Russia celebrates the “victory” in WW2. Standing on Nevsky Prospect, watching thousands of soldiers pass by in a strict choreographed manner, I was puzzled by the paradox of what this did to me. I felt a release in this
unison order, it was almost intoxicatingly perfect, yet I was equally disgusted by the implications of men marching with guns. After reading Elias Canetti´s Crowds and Power, going to football games, witnessing a few classical ballets, I started to approach ULTRA as a potential artistic work, wanting to expose unison as a physical practice with political and existential borders.”
– Martin Forsberg
ULTRA was created and developed throughout residencies at Bora Bora in Aarhus, Dansehallerne in Copenhagen and at Norrlandsoperan in Umeå in 2016.
ULTRA is produced by Fors Works in co-production with Norrlandsoperan, Bora Bora, Dansstationen and Dansehallerne.
With over 20 works and productions, Martin Forsberg is one of the most wanted choreographers in Scandinavia.
