Bíó Paradís, Hverfisgata 54
Born Old is a performance that combines dance, storytelling, songs, live looping and interactive projection. The show is based on the Finnish epic poem Kalevala and tells about the travels of Väinämöinen, an ancient shamanic musician, re-imagined to deliver an environmental message. The design of the show, using technology to enhance the storytelling, helps to make the 19th century literature more relevant to modern day 4 to 10 year-old children and their families.
TaikaBox works with international venues to re-contextualize the show and make it accessible in the local native language by integrating a local performer as a storyteller. This is part of the company’s strategy to work more deeply in partnership with each place that it visits.
TaikaBox was founded by choreographer/dancer Tanja Råman and digital artist/designer John Collingswood in Wales (UK) in 2010, and moved to Oulu, Northern Finland in 2015. Its main purpose is to create new ways for people to experience dance by combining the moving body and new technology. It has created a large array of works for stage, public spaces and screen and regularly works with a variety of community groups.
